Altadena, CA – Fatal Collision Involving Big Rig and SUV on I-5 N/Sunland Blvd.

Altadena, CA (April 14, 2025) – A tragic accident took place on the morning of April 13 on the northbound side of Interstate 5 at the Sunland Boulevard off-ramp in Altadena, involving a big rig and a dark-colored SUV. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a silver Hyundai SUV pulled over onto the shoulder before exiting the vehicle and running into oncoming traffic. Witnesses report that the individual was struck by a passing big rig in the slow lane. Emergency crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived shortly after, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Tow trucks were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles, and Caltrans crews coordinated with CHP to manage lane closures and redirect traffic through the Roscoe Boulevard off-ramp. Investigations are still ongoing. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of the family.
