Bakersfield, CA – Multi-Vehicle Pileup on I-5 Claims Two Lives, Injures Nine Near LA
Bakersfield, CA (January 6, 2024) – On Saturday, January 6th, a tragic pileup involving around 40 vehicles occurred on the southbound side of I-5 in Kern County, about 33 miles north of the Los Angeles County line. Dense fog worsened the situation, leading to two fatalities and nine non-life-threatening injuries, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The freeway was closed at Millux Road while the California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigated. CHP spokesperson Tami Grimes confirmed the fatalities, and more details were expected. Kern County Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Calhoun reported the nine injured were promptly hospitalized.
