Burlington, WA – Fatal Wrong-Way Motorcycle Crash on I-5 Near Skagit River Bridge
Burlington, WA (February 13, 2025) – A motorcyclist was killed in a wrong-way crash on I-5 early Thursday morning near the Skagit River Bridge. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) first reported the crash around 3:45 a.m., prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies.
According to authorities, a WSP trooper attempted to stop the motorcyclist before the crash, but the rider refused to comply. The motorcyclist then entered southbound I-5 going in the wrong direction. Due to the increased risk, the trooper ended their pursuit. Shortly thereafter, the motorcycle crashed into another vehicle on the Skagit River Bridge, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider. Emergency responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle was assessed for injuries but did not require hospitalization. Traffic on I-5 was severely impacted as authorities worked to investigate and clear the scene, with lanes reopening around 6:45 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
