Carlsbad, CA – Crash Claims Two Lives on I-5 Near McClellan-Palomar Airport
Carlsbad, CA (January 13, 2024) – Early on Saturday, January 13th, a severe three-vehicle crash occurred on southbound Interstate 5 near McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, California. The California Highway Patrol immediately responded to the incident at 4:40 a.m. Angela Hays, a 28-year-old from Corona, was speeding in a Hyundai sedan, colliding with a Jeep SUV, causing it to overturn in the left lanes. A Nissan sedan in the High Occupancy lane then collided head-on with the overturned Jeep. Tragically, a female passenger in the Jeep lost her life, and the male driver succumbed to injuries after reaching a local hospital, both from Richmond, California. The Nissan driver suffered major non-life-threatening injuries. Angela Hays, the Hyundai driver, was arrested on the spot for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The collision led to the closure of southbound I-5 until 9 a.m., causing significant traffic disruptions.
