Federal Way, WA – DUI Crash on I-5 Near 272nd St Leaves One Injured
Federal Way, WA (April 17, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near 272nd Street early Thursday morning, April 17, left one man hospitalized and resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old woman on multiple felony charges. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported that the crash occurred around 12:09 a.m. on April 17. A 27-year-old Federal Way woman, driving a 2006 Chrysler, allegedly lost control while heading northbound on I-5. After striking the right-side barrier, her vehicle rolled backwards into active lanes of traffic and collided with a 2021 Kia Seltos driven by a 65-year-old man from Tacoma. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and declared totaled at the scene. The impact caused the Kia to come to rest across lanes two and three, prompting emergency closures of lanes one and two for nearly three and a half hours. The injured victim was transported to Tacoma General Hospital for further medical evaluation. The woman, who authorities suspect was under the influence at the time of the crash, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, vehicular assault, and felony hit-and-run. She was later booked into King County Jail. She was not injured in the crash. An ongoing investigation by WSP aims to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
Our thoughts go out to the injured man, and we wish him a swift and full recovery.
