Federal Way, WA – Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on SB I-5 Near SR-18

Federal Way, WA (May 2, 2025) – A tragic incident occurred on the night of May 2 when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on southbound I-5 near the State Route 18 interchange, just outside Federal Way. According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. when a pedestrian attempted to cross the busy freeway lanes. Despite the driver’s attempt to avoid the individual, the pedestrian was struck in the left lane, suffering fatal injuries at the scene. Troopers and first responders arrived swiftly, and lanes were temporarily closed as officials conducted an initial investigation and cleared the area. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. Impairment does not appear to be a factor, though the final determination will follow a complete investigation. The identity of the pedestrian has not been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. Southbound traffic was diverted for several hours as the investigation and cleanup operations continued into the late evening.
