Grand Mound, WA (October 26, 2024) – A fatal collision occurred on Interstate 5 near milepost 88 at State Route 12 on the evening of October 25, claiming the life of a motorcyclist in Grand Mound, as reported by the Washington State Patrol (WSP). The crash, which took place around 8 p.m., involved a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by a 31-year-old woman from Lakewood along with a passenger from Tacoma. The Yukon and the motorcycle, identified as a Suzuki GSX600, were both headed southbound on I-5 when the Yukon reportedly veered from the right lane into the middle lane, striking the motorcyclist. The impact forced the motorcycle into the right lane barrier while the Yukon collided with the right shoulder. The motorcycle driver, a 38-year-old man from Duvall, was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported for the occupants of the SUV, who remained on-site. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with WSP examining contributing factors to determine the exact events leading to the accident. The southbound lane of I-5 was closed for over four hours as investigators and responders worked on-site, with traffic detoured off Exit 88.
