Kalama, WA – Two-Car Crash on I-5/MP 27 Sends One to Hospital
Kalama, WA (February 18, 2025) – A two-car accident on Interstate 5 in Kalama left one person injured early Thursday morning, February 14. The crash occurred at around 12:26 a.m. near milepost 27, close to Lone Pine Boarding Kennels. 18According to the Washington State Patrol, 66-year-old Vernon W. Schletzbaum of Portland was traveling northbound in a red 1996 Toyota Tercel when he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris driven by 42-year-old Dennis P. Clark of Toledo.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported Schletzbaum to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed. Clark did not report any serious injuries and was treated at the scene. Officials stated that the crash was likely caused by an overcorrection and possible intoxicants. The accident remains under investigation.
