Longview, WA – Two-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Near MP 27 Leaves One Hospitalized
Longview, WA (February 15, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 5 near milepost 27 in Cowlitz County early Thursday morning, February 13, leaving one man hospitalized. The incident took place at around 12:26 a.m. when a red 1996 Toyota Tercel, driven by 66-year-old Vernon W. Schletzbaum of Portland, lost control while traveling northbound. According to the Washington State Patrol, Schletzbaum’s vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with a blue 2007 Toyota Taris driven by Dennis P. Clark, 42, of Toledo.
The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. Schletzbaum sustained injuries and was transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview for treatment. Fortunately, Clark was not injured in the crash. Emergency responders, including local fire and medical teams, worked swiftly to extricate Schletzbaum from his vehicle and provide on-site medical assistance before transferring him to the hospital. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, including whether weather or road conditions played a role. Authorities cleared the scene within a few hours, and all lanes were reopened.
