Mount Vernon, WA – Fatal Three-Car Wreck on I-5 S Leaves One Dead, One Injured
Mount Vernon, WA (March 23, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon late Saturday night, March 22, claimed the life of one man and left a young woman injured, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). The accident occurred just after 11:15 p.m. on March 22 when a driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a cable barrier, leaving the car disabled in the second lane. Moments later, a second vehicle collided with the first, coming to rest in the same lane but facing the wrong direction. A third vehicle then struck the second car, exacerbating the wreck.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the second vehicle, a 39-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the same car, suffered injuries and was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported, and the accident resulted in temporary lane closures as investigators worked to determine the cause. WSP is currently conducting a full investigation into the incident.
