Sacramento, CA – Pedestrian Fatally Struck on I-5 near Sutterville Rd Off-Ramp
Sacramento, CA (January 9, 2025) – A tragic incident occurred on I-5 northbound near the Sutterville Road off-ramp early Thursday morning, January 9 when a pedestrian was fatally struck by multiple vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened just after 5 a.m. when a woman in her 50s was seen walking in the fourth lane of the freeway. The driver of a Dodge Ram swerved into the fifth lane to avoid hitting her but ultimately struck the pedestrian. Two subsequent big rigs also hit the woman, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency medical teams arrived at the scene and pronounced the woman deceased. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is working to confirm her identity and notify her family. The crash caused significant delays during the morning commute as authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the roadway. CHP is looking into why the woman was on the freeway and whether external factors contributed to the incident.
