San Diego, CA – Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on I-5 Near Torrey Pines Injures Two
San Diego, CA (November 12, 2024) – A wrong-way collision on I-5 near Torrey Pines late Monday night left two drivers with severe injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash, reported at around 8:16 p.m., involved a white Toyota Prius traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5. The Prius collided head-on with a gray Toyota RAV4 just south of Carmel Valley Road. The impact caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames, creating a harrowing scene in the right-hand lane. The drivers, a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old man, both from Carlsbad, sustained major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Authorities are currently investigating whether impairment by drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. Emergency crews extinguished the fire and removed debris from the roadway.
