Seattle, WA – Multi-Car Collision on SB I-5 Near Mercer Street Exit Causes Injuries to 7

(September 4, 2023) – On Monday, September 4th, a harrowing multi-car collision on southbound Interstate 5 left seven individuals injured and brought traffic to a standstill.

The incident occurred just south of the Mercer Street exit, as reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) on Monday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the crash involved multiple vehicles and inflicted injuries on several occupants. Later investigations confirmed that a total of seven people suffered injuries, with one driver taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence.

As per the information provided by troopers, the vehicle responsible for the accident was traveling in the wrong direction on I-5 at the time of the collision.

However, it remains unclear whether the vehicle entered the freeway using an on-ramp in the wrong direction or if the driver executed a U-turn while already on the road.

WSP is currently handling investigations into the cause of the crash.
