Thurston Co., WA – Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-5 at Scatter Creek Rest Area
Thurston County, WA (March 16, 2025) – A devastating wrong-way crash on northbound I-5 near the Scatter Creek rest area claimed three lives early Sunday morning, March 16. According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a male driver, traveling south in the northbound lanes, collided head-on with another vehicle occupied by two women. Tragically, all three individuals died at the scene.
Shortly after the initial crash, a third vehicle, driven by a 21-year-old woman from University Place, collided with the car occupied by the two women. Authorities confirmed that she was not injured or impaired and remained at the scene to provide a statement before being allowed to leave. The crash led to the closure of northbound I-5 for five hours as officials conducted their investigation and cleared the roadway.
