Thurston County, WA – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-5 NB near Mounts Rd. Exit Causes Injuries 

Thurston County, WA (July 20, 2023) – A major collision on northbound Interstate 5 resulted in significant injuries and led to day-long backups across much of Thurston County.

The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 19th, between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle, causing the closure of all but one of the northbound lanes, just beyond the Mounts Road exit in DuPont. Emergency crews immediately responded to investigate the collision and initiate the process of helping the injured individuals.

Cara Mitchell, the communications manager for the Washington State Department of Transportation, revealed that the removal of the semi-truck required specialized equipment, including a crane and a large, low-boy trailer.

According to reports from the Washington State Patrol, the driver of the passenger vehicle, a small SUV, was transported in critical condition to a medical facility for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-truck was also taken to a medical facility with possible injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation by the WSP.
