Tukwila, WA – Fatal Crash on I-5 Near SR 599 Leaves One Dead 

Tukwila, WA (March 8, 2025) – A devastating crash on northbound Interstate 5 near SR 599 in Tukwila on Friday morning, March 7, 2025, resulted in one fatality, a serious injury, and the arrest of the driver for felony hit-and-run. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is actively seeking witnesses to the incident, which occurred around 10:15 a.m. According to WSP, a black 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling on the northbound I-5 overpass ramp to northbound SR 599 when it struck the right-side barrier, veered across the roadway, and plunged over the side, landing on I-5 below.

The impact of the crash was severe, leaving one passenger dead at the scene and another with life-threatening injuries. The injured individual was rushed to Harborview Medical Center for emergency treatment. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement. WSP detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the black Toyota Highlander before the collision to come forward. Detective John Ford is leading the investigation. The WSP has not yet determined the cause of the collision but confirmed that speed and potential impairment are being considered as factors.
