Willows, CA – Fatal Multi-Car Collision on I-5 Near County rd 39 Claims One Life, Several Injured

Willows, CA (August 25, 2023) – Tragedy struck on Thursday, August 24th, in Glenn County as a multi-vehicle crash occurred along southbound lanes of I-5 in close proximity to County Road 39, situated north of Willows, resulting in one fatality and leaving multiple individuals injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene accompanied by emergency crews. The crash occurred at around 2:18 p.m., when traffic came to a halt, with a 2022 Volvo operated by 59-year-old Eric Eaker and a 2010 International model driven by a 57-year-old man coming to a stop due to the congestion.

In a devastating turn of events, a semi-truck driven by 42-year-old Sarbjit Singh failed to perceive the stationary vehicles in its path. The semi-truck collided forcefully with the back of the second car, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in the second car colliding with the first car, as indicated by the authorities.

Regrettably, the driver of the 2010 International model, a 57-year-old man, lost his life in the collision. Sarbjit Singh sustained major injuries and was swiftly airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for urgent medical attention. Remarkably, Eric Eaker emerged from the incident without injuries.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident; however, initial assessments suggest that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash.
