Carlsbad, CA – Injury Crash on I-5 N at La Costa Ave

Carlsbad, CA (December 20, 2025) – A vehicle crash involving injuries was reported on Friday night, December 19, on Interstate 5 northbound near La Costa Ave in Carlsbad, California.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. Initial information indicated that a black BMW sedan was struck by another vehicle. One caller told dispatchers they were hit by a driver suspected of being drunk.

Following the impact, at least one vehicle left the roadway. Reports showed a black Audi ended up off the right side of the road in a ravine near the La Costa Ave offramp. The driver was reported to be out of the vehicle when responders arrived. Authorities also noted uncertainty about whether additional occupants remained inside the vehicle.

Emergency personnel responded to assess injuries and secure the scene. A person of interest was located on the La Costa Avenue offramp, according to investigators. CHP coordinated with additional units and medical resources as the situation developed.

By approximately 10:34 p.m., the roadway was reported clear, and at least one vehicle had been towed from the scene. Officials have not released details about the number of injured victims or the severity of their injuries. Identities of those involved have not been made public.
