Cowlitz, WA – Injuries in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-5 near Toutle River Rest Area
Cowlitz County, WA (September 30, 2025) – A 50-year-old woman from Rochester was hospitalized on Monday morning, September 29, following a two-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 5 near the Toutle River rest area. The crash occurred around 11:20 a.m. when a 78-year-old driver from Oregon reportedly swerved to the right before overcorrecting to the left, striking the woman’s vehicle in the adjacent lane.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the impact caused both vehicles to veer toward the shoulder, but no additional cars were involved. Troopers determined that the cause of the crash was improper lane usage.
While the Oregon driver and his passenger escaped without injury, the Rochester woman sustained undisclosed injuries and was transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview for treatment. Authorities have not released her current condition, but officials confirmed she was alert at the time of transport.
The Washington State Patrol is continuing to investigate whether speed or distraction played a role in the incident.
We extend our well wishes to the injured victim and hope for her full recovery.
