Ferndale, WA – Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-5 Near Main St
Ferndale, WA (January 21, 2026) – A deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in Ferndale claimed the life of a young woman on Tuesday afternoon, January 20. Washington State Patrol said the crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. near the Main St area along northbound I-5. Reports indicate that a car travelling northbound moved into the median. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes moments later. Contact was made with another car already travelling south. A third vehicle then struck the wrong-way driver as events unfolded.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and found severe damage across multiple vehicles. Paramedics attempted life-saving efforts at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Momina Khan from Blaine, died at the location. Officials confirmed her identity later that day. A passenger riding with Khan suffered injuries and was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for medical care.
The wrong-way driver also sustained injuries and was transported to the same hospital. Occupants inside the third vehicle were checked by responders and found not hurt. Firefighters assisted with scene safety while troopers gathered details. Neighbors and drivers nearby watched as emergency crews worked for several hours.
