Jackson Co., OR – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-5 Near Milepost 35
Jackson County, OR (August 12, 2025) – In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 10, a tragic vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash claimed one life along I-5 in Jackson County. According to the Oregon State Police, the incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. near milepost 35 when a northbound Freightliner commercial truck and trailer, driven by 37-year-old Gerardo Alemanurieta of Riverside, California, struck a pedestrian standing in the lane of travel. The pedestrian, identified as 50-year-old Scarlet Laresia Guenther of Eagle Point, was pronounced dead at the scene despite immediate emergency response. Alemanurieta and his passenger, 38-year-old Alfonso Casteneda, were not injured in the crash. Investigators remained on scene for several hours to document evidence and interview witnesses. Authorities have not yet determined why Guenther was in the roadway, and the investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision remains ongoing.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Guenther during this difficult time.
