San Diego, CA – Injury Two-Vehicle Crash on I-5 S/Carmel Valley Rd Off-Ramp
San Diego, CA (January 20, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred on January 19 on Interstate 5 southbound at the Carmel Valley Road off-ramp. According to California Highway Patrol reports, a gray or black Volkswagen GTI overturned after colliding with a gray Mazda CX-9. The overturned vehicle came to rest on its roof along the right shoulder near an embankment. San Diego Police and fire personnel blocked the off-ramp while assisting those involved.
Several occupants exited their vehicles before transport and were assessed by medical personnel. At least one individual was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Towing crews worked to clear the damaged vehicles and fencing impacted during the crash. Investigators are reviewing reports that another vehicle may have cut across lanes before leaving the area.
