Central LA, CA – Pedestrian Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-5 S/Esperanza St

Central LA, CA (July 20, 2025) – A pedestrian running across the freeway caused a two-vehicle crash on July 19 on southbound Interstate 5 near Esperanza Street in Central Los Angeles, resulting in injuries. The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. when a pedestrian suddenly entered the freeway, triggering a collision between two vehicles. Multiple units from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived to manage the scene and assist the injured. At least two individuals sustained injuries and were assessed on-site before being transported to a local medical facility for further care.

The pedestrian reportedly continued running from the scene, leading authorities to initiate a search operation. The crash led to brief lane closures and congestion as investigators worked to document the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and the identity of the pedestrian.
