Dunnigan, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-5 Near County Rd 8
Dunnigan, CA (October 22, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run accident on I-5 near Dunnigan claimed the life of a male pedestrian on Tuesday night, October 22, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. in the southbound lanes near County Road 8.
Initial reports indicated that officers were first called to a nearby rest area after receiving alerts about a pedestrian walking along the freeway. Minutes later, dispatchers received another call reporting that the man had been struck by a vehicle. Authorities confirmed that the pedestrian died at the scene. Witnesses, including Caltrans construction workers present in the area, reported seeing a white big rig with a front grille guard slow down momentarily after the impact before continuing southbound without stopping.
The crash took place within an active construction zone, where visibility and traffic conditions may have played a role. CHP Woodland is investigating the fatal hit-and-run and is asking anyone with information about the truck or its driver to come forward.
