Irvine, CA – Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-5/Sand Canyon Ave. Leaves One Dead
Irvine, CA (October 27, 2025) – A deadly multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Santa Ana I-5 Freeway left one person dead and another injured Monday morning, October 27. The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. near Sand Canyon Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials reported that several vehicles were involved in the impact, which caused extensive traffic delays in both directions. Emergency responders from the Orange County Fire Authority arrived quickly and confirmed that the male driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A female occupant was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, while another male driver declined medical treatment. The CHP temporarily closed all northbound lanes to manage the scene but reopened one lane roughly 20 minutes later to ease congestion. Investigators are working to determine what caused the crash.
