King Co., WA – Trooper and Driver Injured in Suspected DUI Crash on I-5
King County, WA (October 16, 2025) – A Washington State Patrol trooper and another motorist were hospitalized early Thursday morning following a suspected DUI crash on I-5 near the King County–Pierce County line. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. after the trooper had initiated a traffic stop along the southbound lanes. Both the trooper and the driver he had pulled over were positioned roadside when a suspected impaired driver struck them. Authorities confirmed that both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. They have since been released and are recovering at home. The impaired driver was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Washington State Patrol noted that impaired driving remains a serious issue in the state, with hundreds of deaths reported annually. The crash also highlights the ongoing risks faced by both motorists and officers on busy highways.
