Newhall, CA – Wrong-Way Crash on I-5/San Fernando Rd Off-Ramp Causes Injuries

Newhall, CA (August 31, 2025) – Early Sunday morning, August 31, a serious multi-vehicle crash occurred on the southbound Interstate 5 near the San Fernando Road off-ramp in Newhall. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. and involved at least three vehicles, with reports suggesting as many as seven were affected.

Witnesses told officers that a dark sedan was traveling the wrong way when it struck other vehicles, causing a chain-reaction collision. A black Dodge, a gray Toyota Prius, and a red sedan were among the cars heavily damaged. Several drivers and passengers sustained injuries, and paramedics provided immediate care on-site before transporting multiple patients to local hospitals.

Tow trucks were brought in to remove the wrecked cars, while CHP units worked to reopen traffic after lanes were blocked by debris. Authorities are investigating the role of impaired or reckless driving as a factor in the wrong-way incident.
