Redding, CA – Major Injury Crash Involving Tanker Truck on I-5/Balls Ferry Rd.
Redding, CA (November 5, 2025) – A severe crash involving a tanker truck and a passenger car caused major injuries on northbound Interstate 5 near Balls Ferry Road on Wednesday, November 5. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Shasta County Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after the collision occurred.
Reports indicate that a tanker truck carrying around 4,500 gallons of fuel collided with a car, causing a large diesel spill that forced authorities to shut down multiple lanes. Fire crews worked to contain the hazardous spill while emergency personnel provided medical assistance to the injured parties. One person sustained major injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Caltrans and hazmat teams remained on-site for several hours as they cleared debris and cleaned the contaminated soil.
The northbound lanes were gradually reopened after safety assessments. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
