San Diego, CA – Injuries Reported in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-5 S/SR-163

San Diego, CA (August 24, 2025) – Early Sunday morning August 24, a two-vehicle crash caused injuries and major traffic disruption on Interstate 5 South near SR-163. The California Highway Patrol stated that the accident occurred around 3:41 a.m., involving a Toyota sedan and an SUV in the middle lanes of the freeway. Emergency crews, including the San Diego Fire Department, arrived shortly after and reported that some occupants remained inside their vehicles, possibly trapped.

Paramedics provided medical assistance at the scene, later transporting at least one injured person to Sharp Coronado Hospital for further evaluation. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and debris created a traffic hazard across multiple lanes. Additional tow trucks were requested to remove the wreckage, with lanes blocked for over an hour. CHP has opened an investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
