Shoreline, WA – Wrong-Way Driver Killed in I-5 Off-Ramp Collision
Shoreline, WA (September 20, 2025) – A wrong-way driver who fled the scene of a crash on Interstate 5 Friday night was killed hours later in a secondary collision near the North 175th Street off-ramp. Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported that the initial crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. on September 19 when the man, traveling north in the southbound lanes, struck a Washington State Department of Transportation vehicle. Fortunately, no one was injured in that first impact. Troopers say the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, but officers were unable to locate him. The following morning, just before 6:00 a.m. on September 20, a 911 caller reported striking a pedestrian with an Acura MDX while exiting southbound I-5 at N. 175th. Medics attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later confirmed the deceased was the same individual involved in the earlier wrong-way crash.
The Acura driver, a 42-year-old man from Lake Stevens, was not injured. Authorities continue to investigate the events leading to the tragic chain of collisions.
