Stockton, CA – Fatal Pedestrian Crash on I-5 S Near Roth Rd

Stockton, CA (January 10, 2026) – A fatal crash happened early Friday morning on southbound Interstate 5 near Roth Road in Stockton.

California Highway Patrol officers responded around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, January 9, after reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles. Investigators said one person had exited a vehicle to change a tire along the freeway shoulder.

While the person was working outside the vehicle, another vehicle travelling through the area struck them. The impact caused severe injuries. First responders pronounced the individual dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle also suffered injuries. Paramedics transported that driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not shared details about the driver’s condition.

CHP stated that impairment does not appear to have played a part in the crash. Officers continue reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses to understand how the collision occurred.
