Tacoma, WA – Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on I-5 near S 56th St.
Tacoma, WA (August 21, 2025) – A tragic crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Thursday afternoon, August 21, on I-5 near South 56th Street in Tacoma.
The Washington State Patrol said the accident happened around 2:24 p.m. after a car and motorcycle collided in one of the middle lanes.
Investigators reported that the woman driving the car saw the motorcyclist splitting lanes and riding between vehicles. Believing she had enough space, she tried to merge left. During the maneuver, her vehicle struck the motorcycle. It is unclear if the rider was also attempting to merge at the same time. The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle. Despite immediate aid from first responders, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of the family. Troopers shut down multiple lanes to investigate and collect evidence. The Washington State Patrol confirmed that the crash remains under investigation to determine fault.
