San Diego, CA – Major 20-Vehicle Pileup on I-5 /Via De La Valle Injures Multiple

San Diego, CA (July 28, 2025) – A massive 20-vehicle pileup on I-5 North just south of Via De La Valle left multiple people injured and all northbound lanes blocked on Monday evening, July 28. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received multiple 911 calls at around 6:32 p.m., reporting a chain-reaction crash involving passenger vehicles, SUVs, and a commercial truck. San Diego Fire-Rescue and CHP officers responded quickly and coordinated efforts to triage victims. Several individuals sustained moderate to serious injuries.

At least four people were transported to local hospitals for advanced medical care, while others received assistance on-site. All northbound lanes were shut down as tow trucks and emergency personnel cleared wreckage from the scene. CHP confirmed that debris covered a wide stretch of the highway, causing hours-long traffic delays. An investigation is ongoing to determine what caused the initial crash.
