San Diego, CA – Motorcycle Rider Injured in Crash on I-5 S/Mission Bay

San Diego, CA (October 9, 2025) – A motorcycle rider was injured in a crash involving another vehicle on I-5 southbound near the Mission Bay/Garnet Avenue exit on Thursday afternoon, October 9. Reports from the California Highway Patrol indicated that the motorcyclist was thrown from the on-ramp into the southbound lanes after colliding with a vehicle, believed to be a Jeep SUV.

Emergency crews responded quickly to find the motorcycle down in the #2 lane. The rider, though injured, was reportedly conscious and walking when paramedics arrived. CHP confirmed that the victim was evaluated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for additional medical care. The exact extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

The crash caused traffic hazards across several lanes, with debris scattered along the roadway. Tow trucks were called to remove the damaged motorcycle and assist with clearing the lanes. CHP continues to investigate the sequence of events leading to the collision.
